Yesterday’s game against Peterhead turned out to be a game in which neither side could afford to lose, however it also was a chance lost to gain three points against one of the teams which will be involved in this seasons relegation battle. Both sides can look back on missed opportunities, Alloa had the better of the first half but new Peterhead manager, John Sheran saw his side have the best efforts in the second period. The loss of captain Brown Ferguson for The Wasps after only ten minutes was a blow not just for this game but in the remaining games this season, although the team could not be faulted for effort it was missing a spark in front of goal to secure a long awaited victory for the home fans, some who were taking in their home sides game before travelling south to support the national side against Brazil in London. We now travel to Brechin City on Tuesday night still looking to get back on winning ways against a Brechin City side who defeated Dumbarton 6-0 on Saturday.

ALLAN MAITLAND AFTER PETERHEAD DRAW

It was a difficult game today for both teams, as much as we wanted to win it, it was also so important not to lose. We have tried to play a lot of football this season and ended up on the end of the wrong sides of 3-2’s or 4-3’s whatever it might have been – so it was important to be solid at the back today and make sure the ball was as far away from our goal as possible which we probably did well, we tried to play up the big Jim Lister as early as possible and try and play off him, I thought we did that quite well in the first half but I don’t think we did it at all well in the second half and to be fair to Peterhead I thought they handled that very well as the game went on. And they created two or three good chances in the second half, again I have to view it as another point gained, a point last week and again today now we have a big game away to Brechin City on Tuesday night. Our biggest concern again for Tuesday is the fact that we had a few players unable to play today because of injury and then ten minutes into the game we loose our captain, Brown Ferguson off again injured so that does not help the continuity of the team, but I cannot fault the players again for lack of effort that we are not winning, however we are lacking that we bit of quality that comes through from not winning games along with a lack of confidence, so hopefully that goal will come which will lead to a victory sooner rather than later and we can relax and start playing again.
