“The Wasps” emphatically clinched 2nd place in the league and booked their play-off position after a resounded 6-1 victory over Brechin City at the Indodrill Satium on Saturday. The victory by six goals to one, is “The Wasps” biggest victory since defeating Elgin City 8-1 to clinch promotion on 7th April, 2012 when Stevie May scored four goals. Greig Spence with his double on Saturday which takes him onto 23 goals is now only three goals short of the best ever scoring record which stands at 26 in last 50 years. The record was set by Charlie Lytwyn in Season 1988/89 and equalled by Martin Cameron in Season 1999/2000, the closest to beating total was Willie Irvine with 24 goals in Season 1997/98. It was the perfect performance from Jim Goodwin’s team who were positive from the first whistle, even going behing, totally against the run of play did not stop his side from clinching their biggest victory of the season and clinch their play-off place with three games remaining.
