Innes bagged 10 goals in last year’s League 1 campaign with Stranraer. He spent the first half of the season crossing the Ayrshire divide with Ayr United but joins the Wasps looking to add to his single Championship goal.

Captain Andy Graham touted him for big things when they faced each other in pre-season. We’re looking forward to seeing him in an Alloa shirt.

Alloa Athletic FC legend George Brown who made over three hundred appearances for the club between 1967 – 1974, sadly died on Monday 11^th January, 2021, aged 72. George recently revisited Indodrill Stadium, known as Recreation Park in George’s days on 7^th April, 2018 when he and his sons, Nicky and Stuart returned to rekindle some great memories. George’s funeral took place on Thursday 21^st January, 2021 at St. Ninians Parish Church with donations to Alzheimer’s Scotland.

 George was signed for the club on 7^th January, 1967 from Bonnybridge by Alloa manager Archie “Curly” McPherson as a centre-half. George is one of only eleven players who have made over 300 first team appearances for “The Wasps” and the eighth highest player in appearances for the club since 1945/46.

During George’s time with Alloa Athletic he played under four managers – Archie “Curly” McPherson 1967-69, Duncan McCallum 1969-71, Ian Crawford 1971-72 & Dan McLinden 1972-74. He made his debut against Montrose at Recreation Park in the Scottish Cup in a 2-1 victory on 7^th January, 1967 and at that time Alloa Athletic played in the Scottish League Division Two, some of George’s highlights during that time were in the Cup competitions – In season 1971/72 in the League Cup “The Wasps” qualified from their League Cup section which included Hamilton Accies, Brechin City, Forfar Athletic & East Stirlingshire, in the two-legged Play-off for a Quarter final place the Wasps drew 1-1 at Recreation Park but lost 4-1 to Partick Thistle who were to go on and defeat Celtic 4-1 in the final. The following season 1972-73 The Wasps went one better having again won their League Cup section they were to face First Division side Ayr United over two legs, the first game at Recreation Park ended 0-0 and in the 2^nd Leg at Somerset Park “The Wasps” were to win 1-0 thanks to a Willie McCulloch goal and goalkeeper Davie McWilliams saving an Eric Stevenson penalty, one of the longest lasting memories from the game was Alloa centre half George Brown celebrating victory with a cartwheel on the pitch at full-time!

George was rewarded with his consistent displays in the heart of the Alloa Athletic defence when St. Mirren manager Willie Cunningham signed him for the Paisley side on 19^th October, 1974 before a certain Alex Ferguson took over as manager the following season at Love Street and George then moved back to Clackmannanshire signing for Sauchie Juniors.  In total George Brown made 310 first team starts and another six from the bench for “The Wasps” scoring four goals for the club.

Alloa Athletic are pleased to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Jordan Wright on loan from Nottingham Forest.

As well as featuring for the Red’s U23’s, Wright has also had loan spells at Kettering Town, Nuneaton Borough and Alfreton Town in recent seasons.

The Scottish FA Board met last night to discuss the escalating COVID-19 situation across the country and its impact on the national game at all levels.

While the updated Scottish Government guidance permits the continuation of professional sport, the board meeting, which followed a Joint Response Group discussion on the matter last Friday, nevertheless considered the implications of doing so at all tiers of the Scottish football professional pyramid, against a backdrop of increased positive cases across the country.

In particular, the board gave extensive consideration to making a decision in the interests of public health, taking cognisance of the government’s wish to reduce travel and possible contact with others whilst safeguarding commercial broadcasting contracts that sustain the professional game.

Following a meeting between the Scottish FA and the Minister for Public Health Sport and Wellbeing, both parties have agreed to impose a temporary suspension of all football beneath the Scottish Professional Football League Championship, encompassing all predominantly part-time tiers of the Scottish professional pyramid, from midnight tonight.

The impacted leagues are: SPFL League One, SPFL League Two, Scottish Women’s Football Premier Leagues 1 & 2, Highland League, Lowland League, East, West & South of Scotland Leagues, Scottish Junior FA Leagues and the North Caledonian League.

Based on the imperatives of acting in the best interests of public health and participant safety, whilst ensuring professional clubs’ survival, the SPFL Premiership will be exempt from the suspension, provided it continues to adhere to the stringent testing protocols.

The SPFL Championship will also be able to continue provided it commences weekly PCR testing.

The suspension of the game below the SPFL Premiership and Championship will be for three weeks, until 31^st January, and will be reviewed on a rolling basis by the Scottish FA Board in partnership with Scottish Government.

The Scottish Cup will also be suspended, with any matches scheduled to be played prior to the 1^st February to be rescheduled in due course.

Rod Petrie, Scottish FA President: “The Scottish FA is well aware of the efforts all clubs take to comply with the exacting protocols that were conditional on elite football being given an exemption to continue amid the pandemic.

“None the less the continuation of football at all levels has weighed increasingly heavy on me as President, my colleagues on the board and the Joint Response Group as we have watched the new strain of the virus spread rapidly.

“While the national sport has been afforded the privilege of elite sporting exemption, the risk of mass transportation of untested, largely part-time players is something that cannot be sustained as the cases continue to rise and available hospital beds become increasingly scarce.

“After discussions with the SPFL, the Premiership and Championship will continue on the proviso that both adhere to the existing testing regime. The vast majority of teams in those divisions are full-time professional clubs and so the risk of transmission remains manageably low. The cost implications to lower-division clubs was one factor but so too the realisation that many – with some notable exceptions – consist of part-time players who are either prevented from working due to the virus or have to work.

“In either case, the risk is currently too great amid the developing nationwide spread of the virus.

“Much has been said of football’s relationship with the Scottish Government during the pandemic. As President of the Scottish FA and Chair of the Joint Response Group, I am grateful for the clinical expertise provided by government specifically to football and for the timely award of £30m in grant and loan funding for the game. 

“We reiterate our commitment to playing our part in the collective effort to eradicate the virus.”

Alloa have been drawn at home to Paul Hartley’s Cove Rangers in the Scottish Cup 2nd Round.

Last year’s League 2 champions make a first visit to the Indodrill Stadium since Jack Ross’ rampant League Cup win in 2016.
