Alloa Athletic progressed to the 2nd round of this season’s CIS Cup after a narrow 2-1 victory over local neighbours East Stirlingshire, the tie being played on a Sunday at Ochilview Park, home of Stenhousemuir FC who East Stirlingshire currently ground share with. The Wasps were unchanged from their starting eleven who did so well at Dens Park the previous week in the Alba Challenge Cup. East Stirling took a deserved lead after 17 minutes, Kevin Cawley giving the home side the lead and Jim McInally’s side had chances to increase their lead before Bryan Prunty scored the equaliser on the stroke of half-time. In the second half the heavens opened with a downpour of torrential rain, but the Alloa fans were again cheering on the hour mark when Andy Scott’s shot was deflected by Shire captain Craig Tully, past goalkeeper Michael Andrews for the winner. Shire continued to press and Alloa had to thank Stephen Robertson for keeping them ahead in the tie.
