William “Moose” Morrison

Also known as Billy or “Moose” by his teammates and fans.

Born 7th May,1952, “Moose” began his footballing career with Bonnybridge Juniors before the late Hugh Wilson signed him for Alloa Athletic FC, hec made his debut as “Trialist” on 28th December, 1974 v. Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill, later signing on 25th January, 1975 after playing against Hamilton Accies at Douglas Park.

“Moose” was a great favourite of the Alloa Athletic fans and in Season 1976/77 he was part of the Hugh Wilson team which won promotion, the first promotion since season 1938/39 and it was won at Firs Park, Falkirk against East Stirlingshire, a single Gordon Forrest goal was to win promotion. In their final game against Albion Rovers at Recreation Park, Alloa had to lose 8-0 to be pipped for promotion, the game ended 2-2 and Alloa were promoted along with Champions, Stirling Albion.

In total “Moose” made 256 appearances for “The Wasps” scoring 52 goals. He was a player who managed to run into the penalty box and was fantastic for gaining penalties.

He left Alloa Athletic on 6th June, 1981 to join local rivals Stirling Albion signed by Alex Smith, he later moved to Ochilview when Jim Black took him to Stenhousemuir which was his last senior club as a player. He then played Junior football with Linlithgow Rose and Sauchie. He was to return to Recreation Park as the club’s first Under 18 coach.

Sadly William “Moose” Morrison died on Sunday 9th October, 2023 after been diagnosed with cancer. All at Alloa Athletic FC are saddened by this news, thoughts with his family at this difficult time. Rest in peace Billy.
