Rangers Under 17’s v. Alloa Athletic Under 17’s
    Murraypark, Glasgow
    Friday 4th March, 2011

On Friday at Murraypark Alloa Athletic played Rangers in a friendly match which ended in a 2 - 2 draw. Alloa took the game to Rangers from the kick off with Darren Cook nearly opening the scoring with a close range effort just missing the target. Darren then saw his powerful 25 yard shot crash off the crossbar minutes later. Alloa’s midfield of Thomas Robertson, David McCaughie. Ewan Watson and Niall Doherty were giving their Glasgow opponents a torrid time by closing them down early and not giving them time to get into their stride. Alloa forced several corners and from one of them the ball broke to David McCaughie about 10 yards out, but unfortunately David snatched at the opportunity and the ball flashed past the post. Rangers started to come into the game and on the half hour mark Mikey Couser pulled off a tremendous save from a 25 yard free kick. Just before half time the home side Rangers took the lead, Mikey Couser pulled off another good save, but the ball broke kindly for the Rangers striker who reacted quickest to poke the ball into the net for the opening goal 1-0 to Rangers. Alloa switched keepers at the break and Ryan Adamson had to dive at the feet of an onrushing Rangers striker to save a certain goal. Alloa equalised on 50 minutes when the impressive Darren Cook broke into the box and struck a powerful shot past the Rangers international squad keeper. Rangers increased their efforts and put Alloa’s defence under heavy pressure but the back four of Ryan Coates, Luke Running, Graham McDougall and Alistair Hunter stood firm. It looked as if it would take something special to break down the stout Alloa defence and it was, from another Rangers attack the ball broke loose and from 30 yards a wonderful shot beat Adamson just under the bar. Alloa’s heads never went down and with Old, Dalgleish and Wright on to freshen things up Alloa started to get the better of the chances and deservedly equalised. Good work down the left channel saw the ball crossed into the box and David McCaughie volleyed the ball into the net from 10 yards. That was the end of the scoring but credit to both sides for thoroughly entertaining game played in good spirit.
