    Irn-Bru Award

    Tuesday, January 25, 2011 7:29:39 PM

The Scottish Football League and its sponsors, IRN-BRU, will be presenting Alloa Athletic Chairman Mike Mulraney with a unique award for his extraordinary efforts to ensure the winter blizzards didn’t stop the action on the pitch, with the only game in Scotland taking place on December 4th at Recreation Park.
The IRN-BRU PHENOMENAL Achievement Award has been created due to the PHENOMENAL effort undertaken by Mike and his team at Alloa Athletic – as their commitment to football and community spirit ensured that every game went ahead at Recreation Park in December, despite horrendous weather conditions.
Mike and a group of PHENOMENAL volunteers from the local community gathered to move 500 tonnes of snow from the ground to ensure the weather would not stop Alloa from playing. Their dedication to the beautiful game was worth it – when no other SFL or SPL game in the country was played, Alloa Athletic played Peterhead on the 4th of December.
Mike’s commitment to his community went further as throughout the month, he offered lifts for away fans to attend the games, arranged for players to shower in the community centre when the pipes froze in the stadium and even gave fans a curry after the match!
In recognition of Mike’s extraordinary achievement, IRN-BRU Senior Brand Manager Martin Steele is delighted to present Mike Mulraney with this specially made award:
“As the proud sponsor of the Scottish Football League, we have been incredibly impressed with the passion and community spirit Mike Mulraney and his team at Alloa Athletic have shown throughout December. His generosity and commitment to football really is something to celebrate, which is why we are so proud to present this award to Mike - his efforts have been nothing less than PHENOMENAL!”
David Longmuir, Chief Executive of the SFL also feels that this unique award is a fantastic tribute to The Wasps:
“We are always thrilled to present the IRN-BRU Monthly Awards to managers and players in the SFL. However, this award is a fantastic gesture showing that IRN-BRU and the SFL appreciate all the hard work clubs put in to ensuring that games went ahead during an incredibly challenging month, with horrendous conditions. This award reflects what the Scottish Football League is all about, people passionate and dedicated to football and it makes me proud to be connected with the league.
I could not be happier that this award has gone to Mike Mulraney and I hope that our clubs continue to show the enthusiasm and initiative that Alloa Athletic have.”
