Following the cancellation of today’s SFL Second Division match at Glebe Park against Brechin City, manager Allan Maitland moved quickly to secure a friendly fixture against Super League Premier Division side Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, their game against Arthurlie at Dunterlie Park, Barrhead had also fallen victim to the severe frost, with the pitch also frozen. The bounce game took place at the Toryglen Football Centre, Glasgow on one of the outside synthetic pitches. Allan Maitland used 16 players during the match with all substitutes used on rotation basis in the second half. Rob Roy were keen not to be idle following last Saturday’s victory over Banks O Dee in the 3rd Round of this seasons Emirates Scottish Junior Cup when they won 5-2 at Adamslie Park in Kirkintilloch, Craig Feroz scoring a hat trick in the match. Craig joined “The Rabs” at the start of this season from Glenafton where he had been a prolific goalscorer but would be best known to the Alloa support for his time in the senior game when he played for Brechin City, Livingston, Stranraer, Ross County, Stirling Albion, QOS, Berwick Rangers and Arbroath. Although today’s match ended goal less it was a good work out with both teams having chances in the first half, in the second period when both managers used the rotational substitutions Alloa Athletic had more of the play the closest they came to scoring was when Andy Scott struck the cross bar, Ross Philp had a great solo run and shot and near the goal Michael Dunlop headed narrowly over the bar. On Tuesday night the manager will again play a bounce game against Bellshill at Recreation Park. on Saturday at Toryglen Allan Maitland had to do without injury victims - Brown Ferguson (getting closer to return), Stevie Robertson, David Gormley & Bryan Prunty were at the match but were unavailable due to injury.
