    McGowan extends stay

    Thursday, January 06, 2011 7:14:21 PM

The club are delighted that Michael McGowan has agreed to extend his deal with “The Wasps” until the end of the season. Michael who scored his first goal for the club on Sunday at Ochilview in the 3-2 local derby victory over Stenhousemuir, had received offers from other clubs but wanted to reward the faith Allan Maitland showed in him on his return to Scottish football after a period in the Irish game. Sadly, Dougie Wilson has requested to be released from his contract after never recovering from a horrific broken right ankle, a double fracture against Raith Rovers on 11th April, 2009. Dougie had worked hard to try to recover from injury but his recent appearances have been limited to one first team start recently against Airdrie United, when he did show in flashes some of his old wing flair, but following such games Dougie had suffered great pain which has convinced him to try and rest again until the summer. Dougie was the Supporters player of the year three seasons ago and it is unfortunate such a promising career in the game has been cut short. Dougie joined the club from Stirling Albion in June, 2007 making 48 first team appearances plus 15 from the bench, scoring 7 goals, the best of which would have to be his goal at Forthbank Stadium against his old club Stirling Albion on 13th September, 2008 which unfortunately “The Wasps” lost 3-2.
