Alloa Athletic Supporters Club Player of the Year Awards

The Alloa Athletic Supporters Club Player of the Year Awards took place on Saturday 8th May, 2010 at The Oakwood in Sauchie. The event was organised by Alloa supporter Liam McIntosh, who has also organised the supporters buses to the away games this season. This season the club recognised the work of the supporters club and agreed that all the clubs awards would be presented at this the first supporters club Player of the year award for awhile and will look to hold such events now on an annual basis.

Allan Maitland made a speech prior to the awards – “First and foremost there has been a huge disappointment in the way the season has ended, if you could have seen the faces of the players after the Brechin City game, or the Dumbarton game and the Peterhead game you would all know what it means to them, I know how much it means to the Alloa supporters both home and away and we really appreciate your support but unlike the other clubs in our league – when our time comes to go up, we are going up to stay up , we are not going to go straight up and come straight back down again. We are a club who are trying to build to make things better, who brought in players in the last transfer window, who have made the club so much better and had we had them for the whole season I have no doubt we would have been the club to have went up this season by winning this league. We have been very unfortunate with injuries this season which has crippled us and that was never more evident that It was today, but to all the players at the club this season I just want to thank them because they have been an absolute credit to the club.
The one guy who at the club, who is an absolute credit to the club and has been in the entire time I have been manager is Chris Townsley, who played his last game for the club today and I think it is only fitting to present him with a memento from the players in recognition of his service to the club.”

Chris Townsley said “I’m not sure people realise how far Alloa Athletic have progressed in the six years I have been with the club, the management team and directors at the club now are all working together to make us a successful club on and off the pitch, Although it didn’t just work out for us in the end this season but I am sure we have the structure at this club to take us to the next level. I would like to express how I am going to miss all the boys but will not miss “Wardie’s” training in midweeks, I will still keep in touch and watch as the club is one which is going places, the main difference being the quality of players we have now than six years ago when I first joined which is credit to the boss and Wardie, lastly I would like to personally thank Ronnie Scott who has helped me in all my time with the club.
