    Wasps edge Albion Rovers

    Alloa Athletic played their first Pre-season match against Kevin Harper's Albion Rovers side at the Indodrill Stadium on Saturday 29th June, 2019, a day after Jim Goodwin moved to St.Mirren with Paddy Connolly taking charge for the fifth time on a caretaker role.

    Iain Flannigan & Stevie Hetherington were still on holiday and Robert Thomson is still recovering after surgery in the close season. The game started brightly with both new signings Liam Buchanan and Andy Stirling looking to get involved as quickly as possible, while Cameron O'Donnell, who is still only 17 years old, having impressed last season in Youth side was also catching the eye. Andy Stirling put "The Wasps" in front after 28 minutes working a good one two before shooting home.

    There was no more scoring before half-time when the heavens opened and the pitch was soaked before the thunder & lightning began, referee craig Napier having to ask for the floodlights to be switched on. Albion Rovers substitute Ousman See pulled a goal back before he had to be replaced suffering from a prior injury.

    The game then went into a phase of bringing on "Trialists" - Alloa using 6 subs while Albion Rovers used 7. Andy Graham then came close to regaining Alloa's lead when his header just edged past the post.

    However with only six minutes left Andy Stirling's fiece shot was blocked on the line by Gregor Fotheringham and the referee deemed in struck the players arm, penalty to Alloa. Adam Brown stepped up to take the penalty with Alan Trouten already substituted and he confidently converted to give "The Wasps" a 2-1 victory.
