Manager Jim Goodwin's notes for tonight's issue of "The Wasp"
On sale inside the ground this evening - Price £ 2
Good evening and welcome along to tonight’s game against Raith Rovers. We welcome Barry Smith and his team and everyone connected to their club who have made the trip to be here tonight. As you will all be aware we were involved in a very tough encounter at the weekend where we managed to give another good defensive display against a very dangerous attacking team. Overall I was delighted with the professionalism my team showed, not only on Saturday against Raith but also the weekend before against league champions Ayr Utd. It would have been very easy for us as a group to down tools and save ourselves for this week, but such is the attitude and professionalism of the group that was never going to be the case. I mentioned in an interview before the Ayr game that whichever of the two went on to be crowned champions will have deserved it based on their efforts over the last 9 months and not just the last two weeks! My players are a committed bunch who are proud to represent Alloa and don’t believe in making life easy for any opponent, regardless of what the circumstance might be, whether it’s a pre-season friendly or a title decider our mind-set is always to try and win the game!

With all of that said, tonight is when it really matters. What happened in previous games is irrelevant and this is the crucial time of season where the team that manages the occasion best will put themselves in the driving seat. As a player and manager these are the games you look forward to and hope you will get the opportunity to be involved in.  As a club, at the start of the season it is where we wanted to be, and as a manager knowing the talent in the squad it is where I expected us to be.

The players are well aware of what’s at stake and understand they need to show the same grit and determination tonight as they did on Saturday, but this time we will look to add that little bit of magic needed to kill Raith off and score the vital goals required. We know it’s not going to be easy as Raith are a very good side, but if we do the basics well, stick together and believe in ourselves as a group we know we are capable of causing another upset and beating the odds once again! Raith will be huge favourites in everyone’s eyes no doubt but within this club we believe we have got what it takes to get the job done.

As Mark Twain once said “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog”. That will be evident tonight, because we fear nobody and we will fight tooth and nail for our place in The Championship next season.

Enjoy the game, get behind the lads and may the best team win.

Thanks in advance for your support.
