    Vital game against Queen's Park

    Saturday, April 25, 2009 3:14:46 AM

Allan Maitland hopes to welcome back Brian Carrigan after his ankle injury for the vital home game against Queen’s Park at Recreation Park today. It is hoped he will replace Stuart Noble, who has returned to Airdrie after completing his loan deal. Dougie Hill may also be included after recovering from the mild form of pneumonia that kept him out last week. Youngsters Marc McCafferty and Gary Carroll keep their places in Allan Maitland’s squad after making impressive starts on their debuts last week. Dougie Wilson is the only absentee for a game that could see the Recreation Park side finally end their relegation play-off fears, with Maitland saying, “A win makes us safe and a draw means that Queen’s Park will have to beat Raith Rovers next Saturday to catch up. “That will not be easy with Raith going for the title— however, I would prefer a win to ensure we are no longer involved at all.” The Spiders are confident, picking up wins on their last two trips to the artificial surface at Recreation Park. Hampden head coach Gardner Speirs has a doubt over central defender Steven Reilly, with long-term absentee Tony Quinn the only other first team player not available to Speirs. We know that a victory today will secure our place in the second division for next season but that not mask the fact that we have massively under achieved this season. We will again need a display where everybody plays well if we expect to win today when our opponents will be desperate for a victory.
