    Barry Smith after Northampton game

The work rate of the players was excellent and we controlled the game for large spells. The boys all looked reasonably sharp but I still think we can be better. I am happy with the way they went about things in the game. We should maybe have created a few more chances than we did but we had a lot of possession against a very few good side in Northampton Town. The players are starting to bed in now and it is just about making sure we are ready for the start of the season now. This is a good result but we won’t get carried away because we still have a lot of improvement in us and we will find that before the start of the season. Northampton are a big physical side and after going a goal down it would have been easy to feel sorry for ourselves but the players fought away and worked themselves back into the game with a lot of possession in the first half and then second half we got the rewards for their hard work. We do try to get the ball down and play while retaining possession of the ball and if we continue that we cannot go wrong. We are pleased to tie up deals for Jason Marr, Michael Doyle and Liam Buchanan but we still have work to do in that sense and there will be one or two more still to come in. We have another game really quickly now up at Brechin on Saturday but it will get us in really good shape for the following week up at Arbroath and we look forward to it after such a positive performance here. Defensively as a team we were solid and proved how we can press the ball in areas and make life difficult for teams to break us down. It is hard to gauge the level we are at in pre-season but if the players keep working as hard as this game then they will get their rewards for it.
